ICONIC BEASTS, BEAUTIES and CREATURES
Saturday & Sunday April 21st & 22nd
Using collage, beeswax, whimsy and fun we will transform an image of man’s best friend, the king of the beasts or the average gal into an encaustic iconic image. What kind of icon? A mythical goddess? What ever works for you….fido floating through space, helmet et al from a verse of “Space man” or “Life on Mars”. Maybe a elk gussied up like a woodland fairy? A Zebra with a halo? Why not.
We will go over design and ideas in class. We will have some images on hand too. Some of the techniques covered include; working larger, creating atmospheric background through colour mixing, glazing, collage, embedding images, image transfer, incising, working with a stylus, metallics, enhancing colour with the use of pigment sticks, pan pastel, tar paint and oil paint.
Come to workshop with your board primed if you would like to do this in the studio. Sign up for an open studio prior to the weekend workshop.
